Herbal Remedies for daily living - Thinning Hair #179 - 28th October 2025

I have always had thin hair, but after having treatment for melanoma a few years ago and then going through the menopause recently, my hair was so thin on top you could see my scalp. I’ve tried an array of shop bought products, all of which didn’t work and most of which just weighed my already thin hair down even more. So having got fed up of removing hair balls from the shower plug and hair brush, I decided to have a go at making something herbal instead.

In reality it isn’t going to make my hair much thicker, but it can help it grow quicker, so I’m going to make this hair mask, use it and see how we get on.

I am making mine with all dried ingredients, but you could use fresh if you wanted. It’s contains only 5 things, all natural and really quick to make too.

Ingredients required -

  • 120g of Aloe gel

  • 3g dried hibiscus (4g fresh)

  • 3g dried rosemary (4g fresh)

  • 3g dried nettle (4g fresh)

  • Hot water

  • 55g pumpkin seed oil

How to make -

  1. Weight out all the herbs into a bowl.

  2. Pour hot water into the herbs to cover, place a lid on the bowl and set aside for  30 minutes.

  3. After 30 minutes, strain the herbs off the water through a fine muslin cloth or similar.

  4. Place your herbal infused water to one side.

  5. Add 120g of the herbal infusion to a blender.

  6. Add the aloe gel to the blender.

  7. Add the pumpkin seed oil.

  8. Blend well until milky and creamy.

  9. Decant into an airtight jar and place in the fridge.

If you happen to have a squeezy bottle to put it in, even better.   Pour a splodge (technical term) to your palm and massage into your hair, especially around the roots and scalp.  If you want to apply it before bedtime, just rub in and leave it to dry, place a hand towel over your pillow or wrap your hair to save your pillow case.

Shake the bottle well before use and keep in the fridge.  It will need remaking each week.
