What is Mirror Magic #183 - 8th November 2025

Mirror Magic

It seems a good time to write about this as we come out of the Samhain energy and the veil starts to thicken again.

Mirror magic also called scrying was popular in ancient times as every household no matter how poor or rich has at least 1 mirror and although candle magic was the most used form of spellcasting before electricity became a thing, mirrors were the number one divination tool.

Think back to the fairytale “Snow White”

“Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all”? This isn’t made up for film, it is a long used passed down simple spell to create beauty in the eye of the beholder.

So how do we use mirrors in magic? Their primary use was to manipulate energy so we could channel it for our own use, secondly they were used to create a portal to the Summerlands so that we could commune with ancestral spirit. Further down the line of uses came hair brushing and applying beauty products.

At its core the magic mirror! is based on the idea that mirrors possess qualities that go beyond their physical reflection. They are thought to serve as portals between the realms as well as for self reflection and divination. By using them in magic you could amplify your intentions with the reflective surface.

What methods can be used -

  • Scrying - Gaze into the glass in a dimly lit room and read the pictures that emerge. Symbols, images and visions appear and just need to be translated.

  • Mirror Spells - Write your spell on a piece of paper and place it either on the mirror, or in front of it to amplify the intention.

  • Ancestral Communication - Create sacred space in front of the mirror, light candles and incense, and set the intention to receive their messages. Gaze into the mirror with an open heart.

  • Energetic Cleansing - Use mirrors to cleanse and purify your energy. Stand in front of the mirror and visualise any negative energy being released and the newly transformed positive energy being amplified by the reflective surface.

  • Protection & Warding - Place your mirrors strategically around your living space to reflect negative energy away from you. Face them outwards near doors and windows to stop unwanted spirits entering your home.

  • Self Reflection and Inner Work - Use the mirror for self growth and exploration. Gaze into your own eyes and contemplate your feelings, thoughts and aspirations. Journal your findings.

  • Manifestation Work - Use like a vision board. Attach words, images and symbols to your mirror and visualise them being amplified until they are created.

  • Meditation - Sit in front of the mirror, soften your gaze and connect with your inner self. You can experience insights, emotions and a sense of unity using this method.

  • Full Moon Rituals - Set up your mirror outside to reflect the full moon. Bath in its shimmer and use this energy to create extra energy around other forms of spellcasting and divination.

You can use any mirror, but why not make a specific scrying mirror and then one for any reflective work. Charity shops are full of dressing table mirrors of all shapes and sizes and you only need a glue gun and craft items to make the most special item in your magical tool kit.

Here is hoping you all have a fabulously reflective weekend. )0(
