Feverfew
This daisy like plant has been used for 100’s of years as a migraine and headache herb. The plant contains parthenolide which is a chemical compound that helps block the production of prostaglandins, which are linked to pain, inflammation, and fever. It is thought to help support some of the other issues associated with migraine like nausea and sensitivity to light and noise too.
Studies have been done to see if its compound components also have anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. Especially for arthritis pain, menstrual cramps, and other forms of inflammation.
Due to its high levels of antioxidants, it is considered to help protect the body from damage caused by free radicals and play a role in preventing cell damage too.
Feverfew has been used for skin irritations and also to reduce anxiety and depression too and some people have found it beneficial for regulating the appetite also.
Although generally considered safe some people have recorded dizziness and menstrual changes after 4 months of use and people with allergies to the Asteraceae or Compositae plant families, such as daisies, marigolds, and chrysanthemums, should also avoid feverfew.
Feverfew is generally taken as a supplement, tea or tincture between 100-300mg a day.
