Ginger

Don’t get too excited. Unfortunately Zingiber officinale (common ginger) is not native to the UK and typically grows in warmer climates. Do not use Asarum europaeum (Wild ginger) as this is unchartered as a medicinal herb.

The great thing about Ginger is that we can buy it almost anywhere. You will find it dry in the herb and spice section of most supermarkets, dry as a powder or in dry chunks at a health food store and fresh on the fruit market or International food stores.

So there really is no need to miss out on all it has to offer.

While some garden centers may sell Zingiber officinale rhizomes for planting, they are not commonly sold as they tend not to do well unless you have a heater poly tunnel to keep them in.
