Hawthorn
Who could do anything other than love Hawthorn? This delightful bush, that if left alone grows into a tree, has it’s own protection mechanism (large spikes), and also produces food in numerous different ways for us and insects.
The leaves contain vitamin B1,2 and 6 and vit C, the flowers have all the same vit B’s, Vit A, C and D, plus flavonoids and other beneficial compounds that support the body and the berries are packed with goodness including Vit A, B and D, potassium, sodium, iron, calcium and phosphorus.
The fact it is high in flavonoids and other beneficial compounds means it is a great antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and has cardiotonic effects. It is also known to support those with anxiety and improve sleep quality and patterns.
Studies have shown there is potential for improved blood circulation which can lessen angina symptoms and strengthen the heart muscles. It is also helps lower blood pressure and mild hypertension.
It’s make-up supports lowering cholesterol, especially triglyceride levels, which can help with improving heart function and lessoning the risk of blocked arteries.
It is also considered to benefit stress, anxiety, poor digestion and over all feelings of wellbeing due to its nutrient rich make-up of vitamins, minerals and amino acids.
